Nursing Alumni Chapter

The Inaugural Luncheon for the rebirth of the Nursing Alumni at UT Tyler is a reality. This became a labor of love for a number of people over time. Two or three earlier attempts to reactivate the chapter lasted several months each; the technology and staff support were not adequate to maintain the efforts. Now with a strong parent organization, a working committee, bylaws and officers, and a web page, the new presence is supported by Dean Klotz, both philosophically and through some growth funds.

Florence Nightingale came for lunch! She heartily approved the purposes of the College of Nursing Alumni Chapter which are to (a) maintain a strong bond to our alumni, (b) provide information related to the college and alumni, and (c) secure funding for student scholarships and faculty research as well as college programs and projects. Hope you join us!

Master of Ceremonies for the Luncheon, Mrs. Debbie Stauffer, introduced special guests and the 2005 Nursing Alumni Committee: Helene Hakim, Lynn Summers, Andi Liner, Dyna Tutt, Karen Torres, Larry Davidson, Cheryl Mapes, Katie Reed, Pam Lake, Debra Stauffer and Marian Rowe.

Invitations were extended to May 2005 graduates, Class of 1984, Class of 1994, and Class of 2004 as well as two graduates who have served in Iraqu recently, Lt. Andrew Albright and Lt. Rene De La Rosa.  We enjoyed fajitas, fellowship, and celebration!

Additionally, four awards were given by the UT Tyler Nursing Alumni Chapter. Three students were selected by their campus peers as "most ethical" to receive a certificate, a nursing pin, and their name on a perpetual plaque in the campus nursing office. Those Spring 2005 graduating seniors so honored were Craig Wilson of Longview, Katie Reed of Palestine, and Michael Gilheany fo Tyler.  Also, an honorary life membership was awarded to Dr. Marian Rowe in recognition of her years of dedication and service to the UT Tyler College of Nursing and for her commitment to the College of Nursing Alumni Chapter.

Join us as we enter an exciting new phase of our history.
